Who we are
Unlimited Grading & Utility LLC is an owner-operated excavation, grading, and underground utility contractor based in Rapid City, South Dakota, with over 25 years of experience working ground across the Black Hills and western South Dakota. We self-perform grading and site preparation, water, sewer and storm sewer installation, utility trenching, structural fill and compaction, clearing and demolition, drainage and pond construction, and road building and maintenance.

Our approach
Do it once, do it right
Earthwork is the one trade where the mistakes get buried. A pad that never got proper compaction looks exactly like one that did — until the slab cracks. A trench backfilled loose looks fine until the driveway sinks. A gravel road with no crown looks like a road until the first heavy rain.
We would rather spend the extra half day getting the fill in its moisture window, compacting in real lifts, and cutting the ditch properly than come back in two years to fix it. That is the whole philosophy, and it is why most of our work comes from people we have already worked for.

Built for this region
There is a reason local experience matters more here than it does in a lot of places. Western South Dakota hands you expansive clay soils that swell and shrink with moisture, shallow granite and limestone through the Black Hills, frost depths that dictate how deep every water line has to go, and a construction season that opens late and closes hard.
A contractor who learned the trade somewhere flat and soft will price a basement dig as a routine excavation and then discover rock at four feet. They will place fill without moisture-conditioning it because where they came from that was fine. We plan around this ground because we have been working it for 25 years.
