Excavation, Grading & Utility Contractor in Rapid City, SD
Site prep, underground utilities, drainage, and dirt work across Rapid City and Pennington County.
Unlimited Grading & Utility LLC is an excavation, grading, and underground utility contractor serving Rapid City, South Dakota and all of Pennington County. We handle building pad grading and mass excavation, water, sewer, and storm sewer installation, utility trenching for power and communications, structural fill and compaction, land clearing and demolition, drainage and detention ponds, and road construction and maintenance.
With 25 years working ground in this market, we know what Rapid City dirt does — expansive clay that moves with moisture, shallow rock on the west side, and a build season that closes fast. Call 605-381-6458 or email jason@unlimitedgrading.com for a site walk.
Earthwork for a market that keeps building
Rapid City has been one of the faster-growing metro areas in the region, and every new home, commercial building, and subdivision street starts with dirt work. We work for general contractors, developers, builders, business owners, and homeowners across the city — from a single residential pad or a failed sewer lateral to full site development with streets, utilities, and stormwater.
Because we run grading, underground utilities, and drainage under one roof, a project does not stall waiting on three separate outfits to coordinate. One crew, one schedule, one number to call.
Neighborhoods and areas we work
We work throughout Rapid City and the surrounding area, including west Rapid and the Canyon Lake area, north Rapid, the Rapid Valley and east side toward Box Elder, Robbinsdale and south Rapid, Chapel Valley and the Skyline area, and the Catron Boulevard and southeast growth corridor. We also serve the outlying Pennington County acreages where rural water, septic site work, long driveways, and stock ponds are the norm rather than the exception.
What Rapid City ground demands
Three local conditions shape almost every job here. Expansive clay swells and shrinks with moisture, which is what moves footings and cracks slabs when fill was never moisture-conditioned or properly compacted. Shallow bedrock shows up quickly toward the Hills, turning routine basement and trench digs into ripping and hammer work. Runoff concentration off the hills means drainage has to be designed rather than assumed — Rapid City has a long institutional memory about what water can do here.
We build for those conditions instead of finding out about them at the halfway point.

Rapid City — questions we get asked
Do you serve all of Rapid City and Pennington County?
Yes. We work throughout Rapid City proper and across Pennington County, including Box Elder, Rapid Valley, Hill City, Keystone, Hermosa, and the rural acreages in between. We also work north into Meade County through Black Hawk, Summerset, and Piedmont.
Are you licensed and insured to work in Rapid City?
Yes. We carry insurance appropriate to commercial and residential earthwork and utility construction, work within Rapid City and Pennington County permitting and inspection requirements, and call in utility locates before every dig. Certificates of insurance are available on request for general contractors and commercial clients.
How soon can you get on my project?
It depends on the season and the scope. The build season here fills up quickly, so the earlier you call the better your scheduling options. Small residential jobs and emergency utility repairs can often be worked in on shorter notice than a full site development. Call 605-381-6458 and we will give you an honest window rather than a promise we cannot keep.
